Get Learning: Become a Personal Trainer
Why NOW is the time to start learning, become a personal trainer.
Studying to be a Personal Trainer can be a rewarding experience, but if you are already in a career or if fitness has only recently become your passion, then it can also be a daunting one.
According to a recent article in the Financial Times adults in the UK change careers up to 5 times during their working life. ‘Voluntarily’ resigning from our current careers and to take back control has been described as ‘liberating’. Whats more, according to the Independent there are now over 5 million adults in the UK who are self-employed and following their passion.
I’m not telling you to quit your day job just yet, but at least dare to dream a little. Take me for example; when I first became a Personal Trainer, I was a manager of a pub and restaurant. Whilst I was earning a decent salary with minimal overheads, I was not happy; I did not feel fulfilled and I definitely was not excited to go to work each day. I worked crazy unsociable hours and was starting to feel fairly unhealthy; it was time for things to change.
I had always had an interest in sport and fitness and personal training had always been in the back of my mind…but I did not know how I was going to fit a full-time, 6 week course around my current commitments. Luckily for me, I found an E-learning course and never looked back.
An recent article by Dexway highlighted research by ‘The Research Institute of America’ which has found that online learning courses have an increased retention rate when compared to traditional classroom-based learning. The article also describes how learning in your own time and at your own pace can allow for more efficient learning.
Nearly 10 years on, and I can honestly say I am as passionate now about fitness and helping people to reach their goals as I was when I started. Sure, we all have good and bad days, but this is an industry I now simply couldn’t imagine not being part of. Whether I am personal training, managing a gym, teaching the personal trainers of the future or working on my own fitness goals, fitness is the only industry for me.
There has never been an easier time to learn a new skill and train within your passion than through what is available today. So what are you waiting for? Maybe now is the time to start; to turn away from the 9-5 and imagine where you could be in 10 years’ time.
